Biography:

Mike Schultz is an ABC-certified prosthetist-orthotist with 30 years of clinical and professional experience. He is the founder of H.O.P.E., Inc. As a previous practice manager with a national prosthetics and orthotics company, Mike led a multidisciplinary team that restored mobility, independence, and self-confidence to patients of all ages and functional abilities. In 1990, he joined Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics in Kansas City, MO. In this market he was responsible for the operations of six patient care facilities and 25 employees.

Mike earned a B.S. in Biology from Northern Illinois University in 1986. He then attended the Certificate Program in Prosthetics at Northwestern University in Chicago. Upon completion of his residency and the passing of his board exams for prosthetics, Mike returned to Northwestern University to attend their Certificate Program in Orthotics. Finally, Michael earned his Master of Business/Administration from Baker University (Kansas) in 1999.

Mike began his career with American Prosthetics in Des Moines, IA in 1987. In 1990, he joined Hanger in Kansas City, MO. In this market he was responsible for the operations of six patient care facilities and 25 employees. In April 2003, he accepted the position as a Practice Manager in Des Moines, IA. In this role he was responsible for the management of two facilities. In addition, he was responsible for evaluation, design, manufacture, and fitting of artificial limbs and orthopedic braces and supports. He is highly skilled in working with both adult and pediatric patients and specializes in custom-designed devices for transtibial amputees. He is proud to know he has helped thousands of patients reclaim their ability to do things they thought they’d never do again.

Biography:

Shelli Hale is an ABC-certified prosthetist-orthotist with more than 20 years of patient care experience. She joined H.O.P.E. in February 2009. As a previous manager of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department at West Texas Rehabilitation Center, she is committed to providing premier Orthotic and Prosthetic care to pediatric and adult patients with various pathologies and needs.

Shelli began her patient care experience as a physical therapy technician at West Texas Rehabilitation Center working with the adult and pediatric population. Recognizing a need for quality Orthotics and Prosthetics, she returned to school and received her B.S. in Kinesiology, then attended Northwestern University’s orthotic certificate program in 1997. Appointed as Director of Orthotics and Prosthetics at West Texas Rehabilitation Center in 2001, she returned to Northwestern University for her certificate in Prosthetics in 2003. She was instrumental in expanding the Orthotic and Prosthetic department and programs at West Texas Rehab to include new state-of-the-art services.

Biography:

Dave Kimzey is an ABC-certified orthotist with more than 30 years of clinical and professional experience. Dave became an amputee when he was a 22-year-old due to an industrial accident. He lived for a number of years with a damaged lower leg before his amputation and had to wear special shoes and foot orthotic in attempt save his leg. After several frustrating years and multiple surgeries, he decided to have his limb amputated. Living most of his life with orthotic and prosthetic devices not only helps him understand how the fit of these devices affects function, it also gives him great insight into the psychological changes and adaptations that physically challenged individuals go through.

Dave began his orthotic career in 1981 working as a technician for Orthopedic Service Center inc. in the lab where he fabricated orthotic and prosthetic devices. He quickly grew into a role where he assisted the clinicians with patient care. This led him to pursue a full time career in orthotics. Dave then began working for a national prosthetics and orthotics company in 1988 and became a clinical manager of their office in Kansas City, KS. He continued with this role until 2003 when he took a management position in California. To balance work, finances, and family values, Dave moved from back to Kansas City from California in 2010 to work for Horizon Orthotic & Prosthetic Experience, Inc.

Dave, who wears a below-knee prosthesis, is able to apply the concepts learned through his education, training, work experience, and life experiences to all aspects of prosthetics and orthotics. From answering a simple question, to fitting and building a custom orthotic device, Dave enjoys the diversity in the field and likes the multi-faceted integration of so many parts that go into making the person using an orthotic device restore as much quality of life as possible.

Biography:

Phil Henry is an ABC-certified Orthotist with more than 7 years of clinical and professional experience. Phil earned a B.S. in Health and Human Performance in Health Promotion from Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas in 2008. During his time at Fort Hays State University, he spent volunteer hours in the Orthotic and Prosthetic field, where he developed a passion to help people with gait deviations and restore something that was physically or visually lost. He also was able to work at Horizon Orthotic & Prosthetic Experience, Inc. (HOPE) as a technician during his summer breaks to gain knowledge and experience in the fabrication of orthotic and prosthetic devices.

Upon completion of his undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University, Phil was accepted into the Orthotic Practitioner program at Hartford University in Newington, CT. After completing orthotic school at Newington Certificate Program in Orthotics, he served his residency at HOPE beginning in June of 2009. After passing his boards in December 2010 through American Board for Certification in orthotics and prosthetics, Phil became a Certified Orthotist.  He then went on to the Prosthetic Practitioner program and Hartford University and subsequently passed his board exams for this discipline.  He has continued his career with HOPE as a staff Prosthetist-Orthotist at the Independence, MO location.

Phil has done orthotic and prosthetic management with infantile, juvenile, adolescent, athletic, and elderly patients with ranging pathologies and gait deviations. He is highly skilled in custom-designed orthotic and prosthetic devices in both upper and lower extremities. He enjoys giving presentations to other member of the healthcare community and the team approach to the field.

Biography:

Lori Hansford is an ABC-certified orthotist with more than 21 years of clinical and professional experience. Lori began her orthotic career in 1983 working as an Office Administrator for Orthopedic Service Center Inc. in Topeka. She quickly grew into a role where she assisted the clinicians with patient care. This led her to pursue a full time career in orthotics. Lori then began working for a national prosthetics and orthotics company in 1988. She continued with this role until early January, 2015 when she began her career with Horizon Orthotic & Prosthetic Experience, Inc.

Lori’s area of clinical focus include pediatric lower extremity orthotics, cranial remolding orthoses, as well as spinal management. She specializes in orthotic management of gait deviations and spasticity in infants, toddlers, juveniles, adolescents and elderly patients. She is highly skilled in custom-designed orthotic devices for cranial deviations related to plagiocephaly. Lori appreciates developing long term relationships with the patients and families that she treats. She strives to use the most innovative devices to provide her patients with the support and comfort that they deserve.

Biography:

Rebecca grew up in the Kansas City area. She attended college for undergraduate studies at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. There she majored in Psychology, Pre Physical Therapy and Critical Thought and Inquiry. She minored in Coaching and Performance Enhancement. Rebecca also played four years on the women’s soccer team at Jewell as a goalie.

Upon graduating from Jewell, Rebecca began working at HOPE as a technician. She worked full time as a technician from January 2010 to August 2010, acquiring observation hours in the field. She started prosthetic school in August 2010 through Northwestern University. While in school she continued to work part-time as a technician. In January 2011, Rebecca attended Northwestern University for the clinical portion of the prosthetics program. She graduated Prosthetic school at the end of March 2011. She returned to work at HOPE as a prosthetic resident until passing her Board Exams in November 2013.

Rebecca returned to Northwestern University Orthotics program in November of 2011 and graduated at the end of June 2012. She completed her Orthotic Residency and passed her board exams in early 2016. She currently works as a CPO in the Overland Park, KS clinic for HOPE.  She manages a wide variety of orthotic and prosthetic patients in this clinic. She attends several clinics in the Kansas City metropolitan area and is responsible for evaluation, design, manufacture, and fitting of artificial limbs and orthopedic braces and supports. She is highly skilled in working with both adult and pediatric patients.

Biography:

Natalie Lenners is an ABC-Certified Orthotist with more than 2 years of clinical and professional experience. Natalie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Systems Engineering, with a minor in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2014. During her time at the University of Nebraska, she spent volunteer hours at local prosthetic and orthotic clinics, where she developed a passion to help people with gait deviations and limb loss regain a sense of independence during activities of daily living when possible.
Upon completion of her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Natalie was accepted into the Masters of Prosthetics & Orthotics Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. After completing her Masters degree in prosthetics and orthotics, she served her orthotic residency at HOPE as beginning in January 2016. After passing her orthotic boards in March 2017 through American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Natalie became a Certified Orthotist. She began her residency in prosthetics in January 2017 and will sit for her prosthetic board exams in Spring 2018.
Natalie has done orthotic and prosthetic management with infantile, juvenile, adolescent, athletic, and elderly patients with ranging pathologies and gait deviations. She is highly skilled in custom-designed orthotic and prosthetic devices in both upper and lower extremities. Dr. Rick Grayson DPM.,CPed is an ABC-Board Certified Pedorthist as of November, 2017. He is a retired Board Certified Podiatrist, and Foot and Ankle Surgeon.  His fellowship degree was earned at Baker College-Flint, Michigan, June 2017.  The required professional experience was obtained through Horizon Orthotic and Prosthetic Experience, Inc.(HOPE) where he continues his career as a Board Certified Staff Pedorthist at the Independence, MO location.  Dr. Grayson works with patients for their lower extremity medical conditions, such as diabetic conditions requiring therapeutic shoes, orthosis and bracing management, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological disorders, foot amputations, and gait deviations.  Dr. Grayson is active in giving presentations to other members of the healthcare communities, and the team approach to this field.  Currently he is working with the Truman Medical Center three year Podiatric Medicine and Surgery residency program.  He is excited to be a part of the highly skilled and experienced team at HOPE.  He looks forward to provide exceptional service and care to the Kansas City Metro areas.

Mark is an ABC-certified Orthotist with more than 9 years of clinical and professional experience. Mark earned an associates in applied science from Barton County Community college in 2005.  He then went on to earn a B.S. in Biology  from Fort Hays State University in Hays Kansas in 2008.  During his time at Fort Hays State University, he spent volunteer hours in the physical therapy field, where he developed a passion to help people over come  gait deviations and restore something that was physically or visually lost.
Upon completion of his undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State University,  Mark was accepted into the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Colby Community college.  After completeing his PTA program at Colby Mark began to work at MidAmerica Rehabilitation hospital in 2009.  After 4 years in physcial therapy Mark developed a passion for the orthotic and prosthetic field.  He was accepted in the the Northwestern University Orthotic program in 2012.  After completing orthotic school at Northwestern he served his residency at HOPE . He then attended the Newington Prosthetic Certificate program.  After passing his boards in April of 2017 through American Board for Certification in orthotics and prosthetics,  Mark became a Certified Orthotist.   He has continued his career with HOPE as a staff Prosthetist-Orthotist at the Overland Park Location location.
