Plagiocephaly in Kansas City
Understanding Deformational Plagiocephaly
Deformational Plagiocephaly is the most common type of the three cranial asymmetries. Plagiocephaly is usually identified by flattening on one side of the back of the head, and one eye or ear may appear more forward than the other. Brachycephaly, the second most common asymmetry, appears as flattening across the back of the head with a prominent forehead, and the height of the baby’s head may appear taller. Lastly, scaphocephaly is typically examined as a long, narrow head shape.

Designing Custom Solutions
Our pediatric specialized orthotist will evaluate/assess your child’s needs to determine the best plan to treat the cranial asymmetry. A baseline scan may be performed to determine the degree of deformity.
Depending on the child’s age you may be instructed to try conservative treatments initially and close monitoring will be performed to determine if the clinical needs have progressed.
Should our clinician determine that your child would benefit from a Cranial Remolding Orthosis (CRO) a plan would be developed to proceed with additional scanning and fabrication of the CRO.
