Q & A with Reece

Q: What has been the best part of your experience with H.O.P.E.?

A: Well, they introduced me to Limbs for Life, the group that makes it possible for me to receive my prosthetic care. Plus, they’re right here in Kansas City so I don’t have to travel very far.

Q: How often do you visit H.O.P.E. for fittings and adjustments?

A: Rarely. Everything has gone smoothly so far.

Q: You perform at the Renaissance Festival. How did you become involved with that?

A: When I was 17, I went to the Renaissance Festival with a friend and thought it looked like fun. I spoke with one of the performers, and he told me they were looking for a stage combat performer. I took a class and learned how to fight on stage, and now I’m a member of two reenactment groups—Steel Serenity and Yeoman the Guard.

Q: What encouragement/advice would you offer a recent amputee about to be fitted with their first prosthetic device?

A: Don’t be afraid to try anything. Never give up.
